The Best Way to Protect the Family

Why do the Ten Commandments single out adultery as particularly harmful? Because adultery can destroy the foundational unit of a society — the family. If exposed, adultery leads to sense of betrayal. If hidden, it forces the offending spouse to lie. Children are often the unintended victims. This may be one of the most difficult Biblical laws to follow, but it’s also one of the most important.

Script:

There is an old joke about The Seventh Commandment, “Do Not Commit Adultery.” Moses comes down from Mount Sinai, and announces: “I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I got Him down to ten. The bad news is that adultery stays.”

The joke is telling. The prohibition on a married person having sexual relations with anyone except his or her spouse may be, for many people, the most consistently difficult of the Ten Commandments to observe. The reasons shouldn’t be hard to guess.

One is the enormous power of the sex drive. It can be very hard to keep in check for the entirety of one’s marriage — especially when an attractive outsider makes him or herself sexually or romantically available. Another reason is the human desire to love and be loved. For normal people, there is no more powerful emotion than love. If one falls in love with someone while married, it takes great effort not to commit adultery with that person. And if we add in the unfortunate circumstance of a loveless marriage, adultery becomes even more difficult to resist. That’s why the joke with which I began is funny — because it reflects truth.

Why is adultery prohibited in the Ten Commandments? Because, like the other nine, it is indispensable to forming and maintaining higher civilization. Adultery threatens the very building block of the civilization that the Ten Commandments seeks to create. That building block is the family — a married father and mother and their children. Anything that threatens the family unit is prohibited in the Bible. Adultery is one example. Not honoring one’s father and mother is another. And the prohibition on injecting any sexuality into the family unit — incest — is a third example.

Why is the family so important? Because without it, social stability is impossible. Because without it, the passing on of society’s values from generation to generation is impossible. Because commitment to a wife and children makes men more responsible and mature. Because, more than anything else, family meets most women’s deepest emotional and material needs. And nothing comes close to the family in giving children a secure and stable childhood.

And why does adultery threaten the family? The most obvious reason is that sex with someone other than one’s spouse can all too easily lead to either or both spouses leaving the marriage. Adultery should not automatically lead to divorce; but it often does. There is another reason adultery can destroy a family. It can lead to pregnancy and then to the birth of a child. That child will in almost all cases start out life with no family — meaning no father and mother married to each other — to call his or her own.

Idk why I’m even here I’m not even old enough to have a wife but I do have a crush, and even before I became Christian I never thought cheating on my wife would be a good idea so I guess I can say that I most likely won’t commit adultery.

Very important commandment this one. We see the satanic elite trying to destroy the family structure ALL THE TIME …so it must be pretty damn important.

I suspected my husband always texting a lady on his phone , We’ve been married for 18 years, we’ve both been happy together until recently when he switched side and I found out he has been cheating .I explained my story to a colleague at work then she introduced me to this genuine hacker, Darkwebprohacker who gave me access to his phone , I had complete access to his phone right on my own device and I could see all his activities for the past 2 years and also have access to new notifications, his text messages, Facebook messages, location, call logs, and I found out my husband was also flirting on dating sites..I love my husband a lot and I still don’t understand why he betrayed me, I have been a good hardworking wife and never for once cheated on him. I tracked him down and found out he was always going to sleep in another woman’s house with me thinking my husband is always at work for night shift. You can contact this great hacker who helped me found out the truth about my husband at darkwebprohack(at)gmail com or Whats app +19087998357 or text and call them directly on the same number. They helped me get access into his phone without even touching his phone.I have enough evidence against my husband and I am thinking of Filing for divorce.I want advice if I should give him another chance or let go ? We have 2 kids together it's a painful feeling but I believe things happen in life it comes as it goes, as it says what doesn't kills makes you stronger….

This is a big one in my opinion. Of the last five commandments, it is the only temptation we are instructed to flee from. Believers are to resist other temptations.

80% of people who got married last year in Russia got divorced. Is this a bad thing? NO! Them people would have slit each other's throats otherwise.

If the problem of adultery is that it leads to divorce then divorce must be prohibited as well?! I hope it's not what you are saying, because why would you live forever with someone you don't love or even hate? To maintain family? Wouldn't it be better if you had family with somebody whom you actually love and with whom you are actually happy? I'm sure that thus the whole world would be a better place. More happy people=happier world. Just this comandment sounds like some sort of street code. Like we wouldn't be able to build a good civilization if people are not being happy in order to fit some street codes. In my opinion the only problem of adultery is that you trick your spouse. You act as though the marriage is important to you, while actually it seems to be not important to you at all. It is a very bad trick, because you wouldn't be married if she/he knew that. But I would say that back in a day, when women used to be forced to marry someone they didn't love adultery was a good thing. And as far as I'm concerned, if both spouses allow each other to cheat then this is fine. I mean, obviously their marriage most likely will be ruined or will be a bad one, but there is nothing immoral about it, because you don't have to build a family in the first place. Yes, you don't owe it to anyone. So if you want to have a successful marriage than you shouldn't allow cheating, but you don't have to build a successful marriage anyways. And finally, we cannot use "successful civilization" as an argument, because this is straight road to socialism. As long as you don't harm other people, you don't owe anything to anyone, unless you had a deal. Harm to emotional condition of people doesn't count, for they are the ones to decide whether to accept your words or not, and also any little thing can offend people actually.

I think we are to an extent able to judge people for their behavior given that we know it is extremely possible to be faithful. I think the catch is not to focus on judging them but to focus our efforts on ourselves, edifying and fortifying each other and preventing unfaithfulness in marriage.

I know women commit adultery but I think if more men really grasp when the Bible says,"And the sins of the Father (not the mother) will be passed to their children" it would make it harder to commit the act knowing you are passing pain and suffering to your kids. Women get the short end of the stick all through the Bible but this one is just for men. Something to think about. Also, if you want to see your kids turn on someone, go cheat. Kids are very loyal but if you break a commitment to their mom or dad, no excuse will do and no justification will suffice, you're the bad guy.(I have never cheated but I have seen this play out over and over).
