How Do I Share What I Believe? When Evangelism Is Like Baseball

Are there times when your efforts to share the truth of Christianity seem to fall on deaf ears? What can we do when our attempt to talk about apologetics seems less than effective? Detective Jimmy Wallace (J. Warner’s son) tackles this important issue as part of his Incarnate Investigation Video Series.

Apologetics. It definitely is a gift although at times I wonder why the need to apologize for God. 🤔 I know we are called to offer a defense for the hope that lies in us. Perhaps those words are synanomous?
I myself have not seen ppl turn to God because I hv changed their mind /position. At this point in my life I hv learned that we share by living the life of a believer and expressing truth but only God convicts.
I think you are planting good 🌱 someone else will 💦 and God will give the increase.

There can't be a "last Christian in line" unless there was a "first Christian in line".

And then someone comes to me out of the blue and asks! I find myself wondering, "how did they even know to ask me?"

Very encouraging! I have a lot of Muslim friends online that I talk to, and sometimes it seems like no matter what is said, no headway is made whatsoever, but this message really comforted me. Praise God.

I totaly get where you are, I have had (and will yet have) so many conversations with all kinds of people, and the "best" result of these conversations commonly is that these people at least admit that they've never thought of Christianity in the way that I told them, and they'll think about it…

As I was watching your video, this line came into my mind "We will ALL be that – last christian in the line – when we meet all the people we helped to get saved when we enter into Heaven"

Keep the faith and know that God is using us in mysterious ways and at times we don't even realize it…

I totally feel this and I remind myself that it is all about being willing to be used by Him. Just be bold and faithful. The Spirit is doing the work anyway.

So thankful for this video. As a young pastor new onto apologetics I've been wrestling with the same longings, experiences and desires as yourself. Thankyou for being brave, honest and putting this out. You have blessed and encouraged me no end. Keep going for the Lord. He sees your love for him and heart.

Thank you for sharing…I don't feel bad about NOT being the last Christian but I do feel bad when I haven't made the effort to be part of the chain….there are better people than me to be that last voice to bring somebody to the LORD…I'm happy to be a small link ….apologetics has been such a useful tool .

Grace and peace and christian love to you all in these very weird and prophetic times.

Hi Jimmy, great video and very encouraging. I highly recommend Sam Chan's book on Evangelism which has a robust look at the theology of evangelism and our role in it. https://www.amazon.com.au/Evangelism-Skeptical-World-Unbelievable-AboutJesus/dp/0310534674. Very challenging and empowering and I think that in combination with Jim's logical and rational approach it forms a solid basis for relational evangelism. I also recommend the John North Scale which has 13 steps that people commonly go through on the way to becoming a believer – like you said you might be the first who raises faith issues or you might be the last in a long line of Christians having apologetic conversations – John has just broken it down a bit further in a helpful way. Email me using tmcpherson@bbc.qld.edu.au and I'll send you the PDF. Personally, I find the hardest people to engage with are those who are already religious and want to create a mishmash of beliefs without letting go of the lies they have been taught (such as salvation through works). Mormons and JWs with whom I have engaged see the truth of what I point them to in the bible and in history but struggle to make belief changes. Thankfully we serve a great God who's ultimately got it under control. Non-Religious, unchurched, Non-Christians who I talk to have fewer preconceived ideas that are barriers to faith in Jesus. They just don't want to give up their hopes for sex, money and power X) Praying for you this morning and for the ones you are trying to reach.

Flip the script, instead of thinking God is used in part of this, think God does the entire thing. (2:11)

That is what I believe; some of us are the last Christian in that line, some of us are the first. We should concentrate less on being what we want to be, and more on listening to God … He will let us know.

I often feel the same way when I try to share my faith with unbelievers that my arguments for Christianity aren't very good but I have to remind myself of what Jim says about planting seeds ultimately it's God that does the rest. I've noticed though that I'm getting better with apologetics with practice so that gives me some hope . Thanks for sharing how you feel and your not alone in that regard ! 👍

Amen – God works through His Church and we get to be a part of that, whether at the beginning or at the end. It’s not about us, it’s about Him and others! We are called to share the gospel, only God can move in their hearts.

Who is this kid? Jimmy Wallace? “Do our best for God?” What of our best isn’t good enough? Is it like he is going to step in or something?

Enjoyed the video! First one I have caught of Jimmy. Well done.
