Are you more valuable than a dog or a cat or, for that matter, a tree?

One of the biggest differences between Judeo-Christian values and secular values concerns this very issue: the worth of the human being. According to the Judeo-Christian value system, human beings are infinitely valuable.

On the other hand, secular humanism devalues the worth of humans. As ironic as it may sound, the God-based Judeo-Christian value system renders humans infinitely more valuable than any humanistic value system.

The reason is simple: if there is no God, human beings are only material beings – and therefore not worth anything beyond the matter of which they are composed. But in the Judeo-Christian system human beings are created in “the image of God,” meaning that human life is sacred. In other words, we are either created in the image of carbon atoms – and therefore not worth much more than carbon – or we are created in the image of God and therefore infinitely valuable.

Our secular, post-Judeo-Christian society has rendered human beings less significant than at any time in Western history.

First, the secular denial that human beings are created in God’s image has led to humans increasingly being equated with animals. That’s why over the course of 30 years of asking high school and college students if they would first try to save their dog or a stranger, two-thirds have always voted against the person. They either don’t know what they would do or they actually vote for the dog. Many adults now vote similarly.

Why? There are two reasons. One is that with the denial of the authority of higher values such as religious teachings, people increasingly make moral decisions on the basis of how they feel. And since just about everybody feels more for their dog than for a stranger, many people simply choose the dog.

The other reason is that, once you get rid of Judeo-Christian values, there is no reason for elevating human worth over that of an animal.

That’s why people estranged from Judeo-Christian values (including many Jews and Christians) support programs such as “Holocaust on Your Plate.” “Holocaust on Your Plate” is a campaign developed by the animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that teaches that there is no difference between the barbecuing of chickens in America and the burning of Jews in the Holocaust. Why? Because a human and a chicken are of equal worth.

So, too, in a notorious Tucson, Arizona case, a woman screamed to firefighters that her three “babies” were in the burning house. Thinking that the woman’s children were trapped inside, the firefighters risked their lives to save the woman’s three cats.

If you think these two examples are either just theoretical (the dog-stranger question) or extreme (the Tucson mother of cats), here’s an issue that is neither theoretical nor extreme: More and more people believe, as PETA does, that even if it would lead to a cure for cancer or AIDS, it would be wrong to experiment on animals. In fact, many animal rights advocates believe that even to save a human life, it would be wrong to kill a pig to obtain a heart valve.

Why do you make death out to be bad? Its part of life. Think of all the death around us all every day in the animal kingdom. Knock down the walls and dig up the roads. Whats left? You in a field of nature. Yep, you are them at the end of the day.

I'm pretty sure that I consider human lives a lot more important than the religious conservatives sending our soldiers to the middle east in the name of god and oil do, and I'm atheist, so idk what you mean by this infinite worth thing. During my religious judeo-christain phase, I didn't get the vibe that humans were considered important, all I got was "be a good little boy or you're going in God's Big Flaming Trash Can of Endless Pain" with a hint of "get flooded you dumb mortals lol"

I am an atheist, yet I believe (for the most part) in Judeo-Christian values,
I am also a vegan, yet I would choose to save a human over a dog (if both were drowning as in the exanple).
I believe (even as a Jew) that using the Holocaust analogy to help aninals is justified, as that industry inflicts so unimaginable pain upon billions of innonect aninals every year just to satisfy our taste.

I can love Humans at a long distance! Whether I be a Christian or not. Most humans are truly evil and selfish. I have found throughout my life No matter how many friends you have. They will always come back and stab you in the back. Human don't know truly how to love each other. That's why so many people become loners that way they don't have to be disappointed in their so called friend. And if you find a true friend you have found a treasure. A dog on the other hand will never stab you in the back. And will always love you.

This video of PragerU is indeed an offensive one especially on the eyes of animal rights activists. I'm going to ask this? Why are animals and also nature less valuable to humans? Is it because animals are being lesser beings? Is it due to the fact that animals especially dogs, cats, and livestock have a lesser advanced thinking than humans or at least they are physically weaker than us? Since that video is, in a deeper sense, propagating that animals and nature are less important, I would want to give my own points. Number one, saying that animals are less valuable because of a weaker intellect or physically weaker body is like saying that a person who is mentally challenged or very disabled less valuable too. So if there's a mentally challenged or a disabled person in danger, should he not be saved but the other abled one? 🤔 Both animals and disabled people are living things. Unless if I will be argued with the Bible, I don't see any much difference between animals and human beings. It's up to the person who will save first between a dog or a guy. Second, Ya. I do enjoy eating lamb curry, Korean BBQ, paella, and fried chicken but in case we slaughter them for food, best if we do it humanely not to kill them cruelly because they are lesser beings. Lastly, if you guys think nature is less important or less valuable than humans, only idiots especially from third world countries and maybe California will agree with that one. Without water how can we drink? Also, without trees, don't you realise how much dangerous it can be??? Maybe because it affects global warming, or it could make places more prone to flooding as no trees will sip the water.

Plus, those 17K likes are from Republicans. LOL….

To be honest, I would choose drowning dog over drowning human because every humans should learn how to swim in order to survive where dogs are not as smart as human but they are the most loyal creature so that's why I choose drowning dog over drowning human.

I'm far from some animal rights activist, but I'd save a stray dog before a human in a NY minute because humans are ass holes and dogs and many other animals are way kinder than many humans I know!!

The ONLY time this is diff is by force, ie: babies, kids, or retarded, autistic, or disabled ppl who are incapable of thinking like a “normal,” able bodied, biased, closed minded adult.

Your dog or the stranger question is completely rigged. I don’t see why you would save something that you’ve valued, rather than a stranger. Sure voting the human would be the right thing to do in this situation but you’re losing something valuable if you don’t save the dog.

1:44 though I largely agree with this video, I do disagree with the way you make it seem like 2/3 vote against the person. If 1/3 said they would save the dog, 1/3 said they would save the person, and 1/3 didn't know, doesn't that mean than 2/3 also voted against the dog?
