Pro-life atheist here. I don't see how Christianity teaches that all human beings are equally valuable. For one thing, God had a chosen people for thousands of years. For another thing, the whole concept of sin teaches that all humans are equally evil and polluted, whether they worked on the Sabbath or committed mass murder. So if anything we are worse than animals, who cannot sin because they have no knowledge of morality.

"Borrow from the theistic capital that Christianity provides"?
    Are you sure?
An atheist (or theist) that cant find a moral standard to adhere to either haven't completed the thought yet, have frontal lobe damage or are seduced from love by their greed for salvation, more life, to please God, to be rich (the list is long)
Theists are trained from an early age to consider their ability to explore love and all its implications as flawed, this is the greatest evil humanity has ever seen.

Atheist cant find reason not to kill "born human beings"?
    Are you sure about that!
Are you going to attempt to say you would lose your capacity for love the second you lose God?
You have been lead astray if you think that love is not the father of all morality, God serves love or serves evil, God is subservient to love or is susceptible to immorality.
Understand love, what it is and how it works and you will have the capacity to know the errors in you in scripture and in others.

All human share (for example) that tooth ache is bad.
So by definition you are wrong.
We share much more but lets keep it simple for now.
Our capacity for love (our well-beings contingency upon the well-being of others) would have us do what ever we could to save ourselves the pain of watching another suffer toothache so our "morality" is simply the drive to save ourselves the pain of others pain so driving our fellow man to the dentist is selfish and morally sound 🙂
    Its not rocket science.

Love is the basis of "all" morality, it can be demonstrated.
Atheists have the same access to this morality as you do but have the added advantage of seeing it undistorted by stunted dogma.
It is love that informed you that stoning unruly children is wrong but you are still blinded in some of the less obvious less stark immoral commands that you "chose" to comply too.
You have surrendered the moral high ground and reason in holding love as a subservient to scripture.

Paul, I would respectfully disagree with your assessment. There are people who are "Children of the Devil" but God loves them and wants them to repent. As far as wives and husbands go in the structure of the family there are positions held for functionality just as there are in the Godhead. Jesus emptied himself but in no way did he become less God. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit each hold different positions but are of equal value. The Bible also says there is neither male, female,Greek or Jew

In that sense, it's purely about tactics.

It's not a matter of being ashamed of where the view comes from. It's a matter of holding a view because it's true, rather than for some reflexively ideological reason. You can explain the Christian position to an atheist until you're blue in the face, but unless or until you demonstrate the truthfulness of the position without reverting to Bible verses, you're not likely to make headway with a person who has no respect for the authority of the Biblical text.

Personally, I think myself or anyone else could be against abortion without being a Christian. So long as I am a moral realist and agree that there is an objective moral law, then I can reasonably be against abortion for many of the same reasons you are. I am also a Christian, so this is definitely a factor, but I'm just saying that it's not only the Christian that can legitimately be against abortion. I agree with you though, if naturalism is true, abortion is just an act amongst other acts.

What gives the 10 year old girl more value than unborn child? Is there a high or low likelihood that both the baby and mother will survive? This is a complicated situation and must be taken on a case by case basis. You simply cannot make a definite moral decision on a vague hypothetical situation.

This is such a good response by Alan, that I added it to my favorites list! The original poster talks about bias as if there is such a thing as a totally un-biased human being, which there isn't! Everyone has a worldview; therefore everyone has biases-it's that simple. As for abortion in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother-something like 98% of abortions (at least in this country) are NOT performed for any of those reasons. Secular Europe has more abortion restrictions.

What if a 10 yr old girl is raped and then gets pregnant? Is it permissible for her to get an abortion? I'm guessing this could somehow affect the health and welfare of the girl if she were to go through delivering the baby.

Its not impossible to be an atheist and pro life. What Alan is trying to say is that there is no reason why an atheist should be pro life. Atheism has no moral guide line so why should they care if babies are murdered or not.
