Science tells us that the universe came into being via The Big Bang. But how do you get from energy and matter to a self-aware human being? That takes three additional Big Bangs that science can’t explain. Noted theologian, Frank Pastore, unravels this compelling mystery and, in the process, poses the ultimate question that every thinking person must face.

You know, for 27 years, I was an atheist. I thought, anyone who believed in a God or Gods was, well, stupid — or uneducated — naive, gullible, or just into the gig for money, sex, and power. I mean, after all, everyone knows that religion is just a psychological crutch for intellectual weaklings, right? So, what changed my mind?

Well look, I tell the whole story in my book Shattered, but for our purposes here on Prager University, I was simply challenged by my Christian teammates on the Cincinnati Reds to read some religious books, critique them, and then share with the guys where the authors were wrong, and why atheism is the only real and true outlook for anyone not deceived by fantasy, fiction, or mythology. I mean, for someone who wants to base their beliefs and values upon evidence and argument, not emotion and tradition.

Now look, simply put, I set out to disprove theism, which I didn’t think would take very long, but I ran into some difficulties along the way. Difficulties like: Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas. I mean, in simple terms, I was confronted with the awareness that there are really four big bangs that have to be accounted for, not just one. I had never really even considered that before.

We’re all familiar with the first big bang, right? It’s usually the answer given to the question: “Why is there something rather than nothing?” It’s the idea that there was nothing, it popped, and — boom! — there’s something! I mean, that time, matter and space all came into existence in some great cosmological flash about 16 billion years ago. There was no gradual development, no transitional forms, just a binary flip — a metaphysical, now you don’t see it, and now you do. Fine, I want to follow the evidence wherever it leads.

However, astrophysicists tell us that this first big bang yielded only a handful of fundamental elements, and that it would take billions and billions of years for the nuclear furnaces of trillions of stars to yield the 118 elements in the periodic table.

But the first theoretical cosmological big bang, well, it only yields matter and energy. It doesn’t even begin to address the origin of life. So, how do you get life from non-life?

How did abiogenesis occur? I mean, the notion that something can come from nothing. Where’s the evidence?

Well, you’re going to need another something-from-nothing leap of faith, some kind of biological, second big bang. For all the mind-blowing advancements we’ve made in physics, biology, and chemistry in just the past 100 years, we’re still no closer to making it happen. We don’t have a clue. The closer we look, the wider the chasm.

I mean, sure, we’ve learned a lot about how to manipulate life forms, how to add and subtract DNA material, even map the human genome, but we have no idea how to literally create life from dead stuff. Now look, at this point we still only have physics, chemistry, and some basic biology — or matter, energy, and simple life, if you will.

But we still don’t have a way to account for the great diversity of life forms, I mean, the huge differences between bacteria, plants and animals. Nor do we have a way to account for the differences between man and animal. We still don’t have an anthropology at this point.

"We don't have a way to account for the differences between man and animals."

That's because humans are animals, genius.

I’m usually a fan of Prager University. What a bunch of crap this video is. This guy is maybe the dumbest person I’ve ever seen on Prager videos.

You can't prove that something that doesn't exist doesn't exist. It falls on the people who believe to objectively prove it exists and so far they haven't. This applies to God, Santa Claus, and anti-matter.

Why don't you ask the question "who created God?"

TL;DR: I can't explain this, therefor it was god.
Not surprising though, people go between Atheists and Theists because they can't accept that they just don't know an answer to a question they can't possibly answer.
    Don't be dumb, be agnostic.

This video tries to disprove the big bang theory, yet fails to consider atheists admit we do not know how everything started. Your theory is more ridiculous, considering there’s a whole book on it

The only issue I find with his argument is that we actually do have an idea of how life may have been created. The four essential ingredients to RNA were recreated using a high powered laser to simulate a very forceful impact in a chemical soup. Also, the increased capabilities of the human brain could have been caused by evolution. We've even seen that animals can be taught to play very simple videogames. humans aren't very fast or strong, it's their intelligence that made them survive and evolution that improved their brains. I am not an atheist nor a theist. I find it difficult to have faith in something that is intangible, but science still doesn't have the answers to everything. Maybe it never will, but that is where I stand.

He has terrible misconceptions, and lacks very basic knowledge about evolution, even when being common sense perseptions which can answer his questions.
However, how good for him, by being confused wrote a book targeting the most confused sectors of the population, who are the ones who often get into religions as a way of doing therapy. Specially into all the ramifications of christian new-cults focused precisely on healing damaged people, who are happy to give-away donations to elevate self-esteem, etc. It's part of the christian educational program.

2:49. Ok. there is actually a theory on this. So almost all life needs proteins to exist, but theres not many ways to get proteins without life. Well, when lightning strikes, a few proteins are actually created. So if theres a lightning strike, some little form of RNA might see that, and it might evolve to use it since evolution in microbial life is way faster.

If something can’t come from nothing then how was god “created or born “ the only reason I’m an atheist is because we don’t know

5:11 Well where is your god? Why is your god more valid than others? The vast majority of science can be easily connected with religion. There are multiple theories than the big bang that are sufficient. Abiogenesis is not something from nothing. Just because no one is sure the exact origins of life doesn't mean God exists or any other deity. Science is used because it makes sense and is testable. Not to mention dead matter is dead, all the structure are no longer in the conditions necessary to sustain life. It's not believed that something 'dead' became life, but structures eventually formed that someway or another started to act in a manner and become life. Just look at viruses, they aren't alive yet they are very close and act in a very specific manner which according to you wouldn't make sense. Furthermore, humans ARE animals. While our evolutionary path is astonishing that does not mean what is strongly believed and supported with great evidence is false. And again, you could easily plug in some sort of deity, evolution is real no matter how much you want to whine about it. Lastly, free will is just you pushing what you want to believe even further, there is no clear way to prove it and determinism has much more support. Not to mention the idea of God being omniscient (or the capability of any such being existing) automatically disproves free will as you can't know everything of the future depends on the decisions we make.

I'm so glad that this video showed giraffes going into the ark (because we all know the whole planet's animal kingdom would clearly fit on a big boat don't we kids!) but because the giraffe is one of the most obvious examples of why there can't be an intelligence behind life on Earth, but don't take that on faith (why take any claim on faith when any claim could be?) See with your own two eyes how we can be so sure of that right here:

Ok, there are many misrepresentations in this video. Firstly, the cosmological Big Bang was absolutely nothing like turning on a light, the universe started at a point and expanded, that expansion is called the Big Bang, and it continues for all of time. Of course, this is only a rough guess, just because we can’t say for certain how the universe was created does not imply the existence of god, there could quite possibly be a scientific explanation without god. To prove there is a god, you need to be direct, just because we don’t have all the answers does not mean that they don’t exist. Next, the biological Big Bang, life is unimaginably complex, but it started simple. (For the best of my explanation, I am not too experienced with biology, but you can research on your own), life started with the creation of dna and self replication, which could happen by cosmological chance(the universe is massive in time and space), then the dna would grow and improve, start to form organelles and cells. This is evolution, when there is a mutation in dna during replication, a mistake, if it happens to help the organism survive and replicate, it will be more likely to pass down that “mistake” to its offspring, and then they will pass it down to their offspring. This is again unlikely, but it happened over millions and millions of years, again, not turning on a light switch. This was known to Darwin, saying he had no idea how this worked was flat out wrong. In fact, this is how machine learning works, it will make changes, if they happen to work better, they will keep it, if it doesn’t, it will change, just to show that this is not some random explanation just to make it work. Then to the creation of humans and psychological development. Humans are animals, just with a better developed brain compared to all others. Our improved conscience did not pop into existence, this happened over millions, hundreds of millions of years. The reason humans enjoy art and such is because we have time and attention to spare, animals have to worry more about food, habitats, and mating, while we have the luxuries of easy food access and housing. Overall, to say that each of these big bangs just happened in a moment, is wrong, each of these happened over incomprehensible time scales. All of this information is out there to find with minimal research, I’m not an expert in any of these topics, but I can still understand to some extent how we got here.
