On September 9, 2008, Frank Turek debated atheist Christopher Hitchens, author of God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, at Virginia Commonwealth University. The topic was, “Does God Exist?”

Hitchens was his usual charming and witty self (I , Frank, really like him and said as much), but he did not answer any of the eight arguments that were presented for the existence of God. Many in the audience acknowledged that he dodged nearly all of the questions. Watch the video and decide for yourself which arguments were strongest. Then read comments in the CrossExamined blog (http://www.crossexamined.org/blog/?p=84) from a variety of viewers who wanted to weigh in with their opinions and arguments.

Humanism solves nothing. People still murder, steal and hurt each other even if they call themselves "Humanists". if it resolves issues, we should not need police. Hitchens should stop dodging the questions "you seem to hint at it". And why does Hitchens keep going back to Catholisism? For ages people used religion as an excuse to bring themselves to power. Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 1:30:09. Religion is often used as an excuse more horrible behavior. Everyone will think the antichrist is the answer to everything until the Revelation starts.

If the Samaritans had no religious instruction, how did the woman at the well know about the patriarchs and where the Samaritans thought worship should take place? He's taking a big leap to say the Jesus story about the Samaritan had no religious beliefs? The woman was Samaritan, and recognized who Jesus was. He also did not condemn her. The religious hypocrites were who he got on.

My big question is how does a bacteria evolve into a paramecium or amoeba? Did all the organelles exist at once, or over time? Good arguments on both sides.

Hitchens’ intellectual prowess, inescapable clarity of thought and blistering critical analysis was on devastating display here. Turek was a trite and ineffective protagonist who offered nothing substantive, new or interesting in defence of his position.

Hitch was on his game for this gig y'all. Don't take it personal Frank, Hitch always 'slaps' his opponents. Vintage verbiage from the greatest Atheist I've known in my lifetime.

I think answering a debate question with an aspirational yes and no evidence whatsoever is not answering the question any more — or maybe less …. than arguing that the question is silly … which is what Hitch did.

Hitchens is confused about being moral vs justifying morality. Many atheists have hard time understanding this.

Athiests never pretend to have the answers to creation etc. all we are saying is that this is no reason to believe in x, y and z so totally and with dismissive conviction without having any evidence.

Christopher Hitchens: "Science can explain everything and you do not need God in order to give purpose to your life or to tell you what morality is!"
Frank Turek: "Hitchens wants to replace God!"

Turek: "Christopher never answered any or all of the evidence i brought up"…….. Evidence??? What evidence? "I believe it, therefore it must be true" is NOT evidence.

Morality comes from within. You either have it, or not. Whether you decide to help one in need or not, to do something or not, is entirely up to you. You have that inner voice, regardless of any religion or any other reason, for sake. External factors can only pervert your inner voice.

1:15:13 "It is quite convenient, and that is the very nature of God"………. and then the look on his face when he realized what he had said………. Frank Turek pushing self-destruct button!………. Ladies and gentlemen, finally an honest statement from a dishonest man. "God is convenient" – that should be the Law of the Church, because it's absolutely true.

    I was disappointed in hitchins.
He simply failed to answer or deliberately dodged questions
Even to the point he was desperate to ask the audience his allocated 5 minutes of questions to Frank. Because they would hopefully ask less prepared questions.
He failed to answer the question what would make you velieve in a god.
He is so dogmatic that no evidence would change his mind.
Even the late Hawkins said that if God appeared in the sky he would believe but then went on to say that might be a trick of some kind.
These debates never change peoples minds because 1 or both parties don't answer the questions directed at them.
Hitchins theme is to hide behind obscure or well read quotes to try and give the impression of intellect where as a grasp of the question followed by an appropriate answer would serve better.
I used to like to listen to hitchins but watching him duck a worthy debater and seeing how red abd uncomfortable he was were indications that even he knew he had failed to make his case.
Hes not here now but now he knows if he was wrong. And either he is no more or worse.

It would appear that Hitchens invariably debates those who only have a tenuous and partial understanding of very complex subjects.

I am not Christian but Hitchen doesn't answer the question.
However, asking someone to prove that something that doesn't exist doesn't exist is just impossible.
Usually, it should be the opposite, ask to prove that something exists.

Hitches never answers a single question the whole debate. He just gives all his complaints about Christianity.

You can’t use logic to argue with people who don’t value logic. These debates only reinforce the faith of the faithful and the frustration of the secular.

So this guy is using other theories to validate his theory, he's even contradicting himself big bang doesn't prove the existence of an intelligent design it's just proves that the big bang no god needed let's take Christianity for example why does the Bible say that God just formed the universe by speaking it into existence not by the big bang?, I can do the same with all other religions.

When I watch these debates I am so very grateful not only to the Creator to raise up amazing men like Dr. Frank Turek but also grateful to these men for taking up the mantle. I couldn't tell you the reason why God has revealed himself to me with so much empirical evidence throughout my life which is only a small portion of the evidence weighing in favor of this wonderful creator. Very sadly, I would venture to say that Christopher Hitchen's first thought after he took his Last Breath of Life on this side of Eternity was, "Holy Sh*t!!"

I'm interested to if Hitchens red dr. Ivan Panin's work. Here are some examples of what he discovered after mathematically decoding the Bible:

    – The number of words in the vocabulary will divide by the number seven.

    – The number of words beginning with a vowel is divisible by seven.

    – The number of words beginning with a consonant is divisible by seven.

    – The number of letters in the vocabulary is divisible by seven.

    – The number of words beginning with the consonant is divisible by seven.

    – The number of letters in the vocabulary is divisible by seven.

    – Of these letters, those which are fouls and those which are consonants will both divide by seven.

    – The number of words in the vocabulary occurring more than once is divisible by seven.

    – Those occurring only once likewise divide by seven.

    – The number of words occurring in more than one form is divisible by seven. The number occurring in only one form likewise divides by seven.

    – The number of proper names divides by seven. The male names divide by seven. The female names divide by seven.

    – The number of words beginning with each of the letters of the alphabet is divisible by seven.

Chance for this to happen by accidente is close to 0. Dr. Panin even challenged some of his opponents to try and write 500 words that would contain this equation – they couldn't.

There are a lot of points Christopher doesn't specify when addressing the origin of morality for example. However the points he make show that a natural system such as the one we live in can arise and prosper without the need of a higher or spiritual being.

On the flipside, many of Franks arguments such as mixtures of chemicals producing morals can and have in fact been theorised in modern evolutionary literature.

My biggest problem with the argument for God is the lack of curiosity behind it. Why should I believe a God created us when I can actually investigate and simulate evolution or potentially abiogenesis in the future.

Finally, telling an atheist that God loves you is like a hindu telling a christian that all their Gods and Deities love you. It's just cringey.

Frank was able to refine more arguments substantiated by reason and science – then most scientists can reason their beliefs of there being no god.

Frank you are wasting your time to debate with Hitchan. He never answer your question.

Who invented the three basic Covid 19 rules to protect us?.
    1. Distance
    2. Hand hygiene
    3. Using the mask

These laws were given to the nation of Isreal 3,500 years ago. Did you know? So look it up in the Bible!

Exodus 30:18-21 wash your hands so that they will not die.

Leviticus 13:4,5,46: If you have symptoms, keep your distance, cover your mouth and avoid contact.

Leviticus 13:4,5; Who is infected must remain in quarantine for 7 to14 days

And there are still those who doubt that the Bible is a book of wisdom!

    Note,
If you catch a fish out of the water, it will die, and when you remove a tree from the ground, it also dies. Similarly when man disconnnects from God, he dies. God is our natural enivironment. We were created to live in His presence. We must be connected with Him because only with Him does life exist.

Let us remember that water without fish is still water but fish without water are nothing. The soil without the tree is still soil, but the tree without soil is nothing, God without man is still God, but man without God is nothing.
