Another reason we know the authors of the New Testament were telling the truth is they died for it.

They believed it because it was true? They had to believe it because there were consequences for believing it?

Isn’t that just more question begging?

We have plenty of examples of people doing things completely irrational I’m very bad evidence. Look at any suicide bomber believes that he is going to have them to meet 72 virgins. Why would he do that if it wasn’t true?

This is question begging. Because we don’t know if it was actually true or not and arguing that somebody else is strong conviction or belief in something makes that thing true ads no value the argument.

They do this because they are deeply superstitious and fanatical. That doesn't mean it's true.

Uhhh the writers that went through these excruciating deaths, might not have ever lived? You think it's not possible that people would make up stories that people died for a story to add even more legendary status to it? Dude. The writer's of the NT wrote it 40-90 yrs after Jesus apparently died. Not very credible.

No excuse not to believe in Jesus. You either Accept or Deny Him. Thank you, Jesus.

Ask the Holy Spirit to come into your life and you will have your proof.  2nd Corinthians 5:17
It happened to me, it can happen to you too!  That in itself is a miracle and I'm a Jew.

So a "method" of telling that a religious document is true is whether or not people associated with it died for it?
But what if different contradicting religions are proven true using that method? Have we got a paradox or a flawed method?

What a silly argument. People believing something doesn't lend to the credibility of that something in any way whatsoever. Regardless of whether they died believing it or not.

Isn't the title supposed to be, "Excruciating Deaths"?

The idea that the testimony of gospels was held up under the threat of death simply isn't supportable historically. We don't know how any of the gospel writers died (or even who wrote the gospels). While we know vaguely how Paul died, we don't know if recanting his faith would have saved him. We also don't know that these early disciples would have "known it was a lie": Paul apparently never met Jesus in person, and in all likelihood believed based his visions and spiritual experiences.

But even with all this, the idea that religious leaders would not die for something they knew was a lie is simply not true. Joseph Smith died for his beliefs, as did Jim Jones, Marshall Applewhite, and many others. This is not considered good evidence that their claims were true.

Does the Bible get Jesus right or does it get some things wrong about him?

Here's the difference between the testimony of Muhammad vs the testimony of Jesus potentially being false.

Muhammad's followers may have come to painful deaths in the wars he fought in the name of Allah, but they weren't in a position to know if it was true or false, only Muhammad really was. All they had was Muhammad's word that he served Allah and his life paints a very unreliable picture. Particularly in the way that his death appears to have placed him under Allah's curse.

I don't want to ramble on all in one post, but David Wood's videos reading from the Qur'an on the poisoning of Muhammad explain it all.

There's no proof that anyone went to their deaths because they believed someone came back from the dead any where outside the bible.

I’ve heard this claim before that the disciples, or the gospel authors, which aren’t the same people, died for their beliefs. But no source for this information is provided. How do you know how either the disciples or gospel writers died?
