Tolerance and love are often presented as equivalent ideals. But they are vastly different. Tolerance is acceptance without the element of concern for the other person. Love requires risk when you present the truth to someone who may not want to hear it. But if you truly love someone, you must present the truth, with grace, regardless of the other person’s reaction. Frank shares a succinct Thomas Sowell quote here that helps explain the difference between love and tolerance and who is served most by which.

Lord Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life: No one comes to the Father, except through Him.

I love my kids and they know I don't approve of everything they want, believe, or do. Parents need to stand firm, and so should friends.

I've been trying to figure out whether you, Frank are Catholic or "non-denominational." Following what you're saying here Truth should be universal and agreed upon by all. The separation of Christians is troublesome for identifying the ultimate truth. I'm Catholic and I acknowledge we have a bad reputation. I believe, however, that this is because this faith (Catholic) is the most difficult to practice. Reading about the saints is a testimony to this statement. So if you are non-denominational, I would implore you to convert to Catholicism. God bless

Interestingly, we protect their temporary lives by affirming sinfulness. Yet, ignore their eternal lives because of cowardice. God please help us help others! Hallelujah, King Jesus

    1 Corinthians 13
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.Β 2Β And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.Β 3Β And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

4Β Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;Β 5Β does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;Β 6Β does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;Β 7Β bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I have friends that are different from me (different races, religions, and sexualities), and I never once think that I’m just tolerating them, because if I’m actively tolerating them, it implies that there’s something wrong with them that I’m just going along with, which isn’t the case. I embrace how different my friends are from me and I’m always willing to learn more about their religion, their love lives, and so on. That’s real love.
The only time I ever once thought that I was tolerating a friend was a certain Christian friend of mine. She is very xenophobic, homophobic, and has a lot of internalized misogyny that stems from her faith. It’s only with her that I think, β€œI need to keep quiet to keep the peace” and you know what? You’re right. I shouldn’t keep quiet. I love her to death, and I need to show her this love of mine by gently talking to her and tell her that these mindsets that she has ingrained in her is harmful and just plain wrong. Even if she doesn’t agree with me, even if it causes a rift in our decade long friendship, it’s something I have to do, because true love isn’t just about tolerating the other person and their beliefs. So thank you for the advice. A real eye opener.

According to Elohim's definition we love someone by keeping the Torah. Yeshua said all the commandments hang on loving your neighbor and loving Elohim. He also said if you love HIM you WILL keep his commandments. So THAT is how we love, biblically speaking.

I have a college Professor who is saying that "I have to tolerate the gay community." Tihs Professor is Catholic and I am about to telll her, "Ma'am. You darn well know that the very bible you read from says that this is a sin, and you are a false prophet. What in the world are you ding choosing to be a hypocrite?" – And I am so tempted to use the pedophile Priest examples to give it to her straight!

Just tell them the truth of the gospel, God does the rest. We are just asked to preach they are asked to believe by God.

But how can anyone be 100% sure of what the Truth is? We can’t. So it is good to remember that what someone else is thinking may be true. So, interact with respect and never pretend to know what is true when there is no certainty seems to be, to me, the best way to engage any conversation

β€œIf you declare with your mouth β€œJesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Now is the time to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Obey His commands and repent of your sins because Jesus is coming back soon. Tomorrow isn’t promised.

Just remember that when Frank says "the truth" he means "the bible" and now "that which aligns with reality."

Calling the bible "the truth" doesn't make it true. No matter what the talking donkey told you.
