Jesus never rose from the dead — he died because he was a man, not God.

God never changes: Jesus was born and died, which are changes.

    Therefore, Jesus was not God.

Even if the gospel authors were illiterate, and that's a big if, with Matthew being a tax collector and Luke being a physician, this is still a non issue. Being a scribe was a profession, if you are writing something you care about, why not hire a professional to help out? Many authors utilised scribes.

Cicero who was an educated Roman praised his scribe who was named Tiro.

Paul who was an educated Pharisee used scribes. Romans 16: 22 says, "I Tertius who wrote this letter, greet you in the Lord".

Scribes could have larger roles than we give them credit for, their roles could vary. Yes, some scribes might write what was dictated to them, but others might play a larger role like that of an editor. Perhaps some authors might give a set of ideas they want expressed, scribes would put them together coherently and the author could then review it and make some corrections for a final draft.

If Paul and Cicero used scribes, why is it implausible for the gospel writers to do the same? Regardless of the role that the scribes played in the writing of the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is involved in the process.

Amazing how the only illiterate writers in ancient times were the ones from the Bible.

We live in a narcissistic generation that assumes no one was educated in previous generations. Fact is they likely spoke multiple languages. All records we have show they were fluent with the varying languages of the nation's around them.

matthew was written in hebrew the rest of the NT was written in greek. about 7 verses in the NT are aramaic. the OT was written hebrew except for parts of daniel and ezra were written in aramaic. the OT apocrypha were ALL written in greek. the NT apocrypha i am not sure what they were written in. then one should note that IF some of the NT "writers" happened to have used a scribe to "write" their books doesn't mean it wasn't from them or it wasn't their testimony or that it was false.

Gospel is real and true scripture. Which is true god's word. We muslim call that "injeen" . Which was revealed by prophet Jesus.
But some people add and substract many things and made many version. Thats why God sent prophet muhammad with final version "Quran". And God said no one would be able to edit this version. I will protect this scripture. Thats why many muslims took it by heart. Alhamdulillah

These are all unfalsifiable claims. You can even argue that God gave Peter magical powers to write the gospel in very fluent and eloquent Greek. Peter could have written it in French or Chinese by God's grace, how would anyone dispute that? Nobody knows for sure who wrote the Gospels.
One thing we do know that nobody disputes, is that Jesus NEVER wrote anything himself. If Jesus had written the gospels and casted a magic spell making the manuscripts indestructible, none of these issues would come up.

they had scribes write the gospels. And actually Paul was a pharisee. Luke was a doctor. Peter and his brother were fisherman and had scribes that they dictated to.

Very poor answer to the questions as the two disciples on whose name two gospels are written, had no knowledge in greek as THEY were from rural area of Galileo where literacy was not even one pwrcent in 1 st century . More over JESUS USED Greek alphabets as alfha and omega to armaic speaking illiterate public in his speeches .very ridiculous .pl use your brain, not only taking tithes .

Tourettes who is supposed to be a Christian apologist does not acknowledge that all scripture was given by inspiration of God:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    2 Timothy 3:16 KJV

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

    2 Peter 1:21 KJV

So according to the holy word of God it doesn't matter how intelligent the writers of scripture were! God inspired them to write what they wrote!

Ehrman himself knows that everyone in the ancient world used scribes and editors to write literally anything, even letters. He knows this because he wrote about it too and spoke about it many times. And he acknowledged this about the Gospels many times, but saying this stuff too publicly probably doesn't make his books sell as much I guess…

Even if the Gospel writers hadn't been educated by Plato or Aristotle himself, the use of scribes was so common at that time, that their personal knowledge of greek is irrelevant because they could always ask a scribe to review it and make corrections. Writing a book was rarely a single man's effort and almost always a collective effort. This happens today too. Ehrman himself most likely has tons of editors for his books.

But that's also not even the whole point, because Greek was the lingua franca of the time, like English is today, so everybody knew at least a little bit of it, maybe even Jesus himself knew some greek. And it's not even true that the apostles were completely illiterate. They were following Jesus, a rabbi, (might I say THE rabbi) for years, studying the scriptures with him. And before him many of them were following John the Baptist very closely. And before that they were clearly frequenting the synagogues very closely, otherwise I don't think they would have been that interested in messianic prophecies. These were clearly people very interested in learning and very involved in synagogues, people who wanted to learn the scriptures.

I live in Italy, I'm an Italian by birth, I've lived here all my life. And yet my English is very good and I've even taught it to others. But I know 90% of other Italians don't know english this well and they make a lot of mistakes. And yet, if a group of random Italians came together to write a biography in english of a very important person they witnessed the resurrection of, i am sure they would come up with something in very good and intelligible english. Maybe exactly with the help of people like me who know the language very well, or maybe even without me.

I think modern day folk with their technology etc underestimate the intelligence of those in ancient times.
Look at the pyramids, they are perfectly aligned only slightly out my millimeters – they didn't have the large construction equipment we have.
There are walls built by the Incans which can withstand earthquakes – how did they know to build them that way? Those are just a couple of examples.
I was in Wells Cathedral (in Wells, England) about 10 years ago and if you look at the architecture – it's amazing – beats any modern day architecture for style and craftsmanship! I asked a workman if he'd fancy building this these days and he said it wouldn't pass building regulations – it's been standing firm since 1175 and been through times of war etc, yet it's still there, as beautifully designed as it was back in the day!
Ancient medicine was a bit dodgy, I have to admit, but in other areas…

If Jesus had two natures, then he was not God.

If Jesus had a human nature, then he was not God.

If Jesus died, then he was not God.

Christians claim that Jesus had two natures, that he had a human nature, and that he died.

Obviously, then, Jesus was not God.

Also, Jesus never claimed to be God.

Matthew was also a tax collector working for the Roman government. He would have had to be able to converse with the people, so he would have known Greek and Aramaic, and in reading any memos or orders from Rome, as well as writing the reports for Rome he would also have to know Latin. Furthermore, at the crucifixion Matthew and Mark simply say that Pilate placed an accusation on the cross saying "Jesus, the king of the Jews." But in both Luke and John it mentions that this accusation was written in Greek, Latin and Hebrew. It seems to me that Matthew and Mark also knew that but it was common practice to write the accusation in all three languages and saw no reason to mention it. Luke comes along, not knowing how things normally were, and as he interviews eyewitnesses of Jesus' crucifixion he comes across this interesting piece of information, which the Holy Spirit prompts him to include. John, who has left a great many things out of his gospel that are found in the other Gospels, also includes that the accusation was written in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. He also is moved by the Holy Spirit to add it in his Gospel. Why? Because by the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses the truth shall be established. Do we know for sure? No, but it seems clear to me that they all knew how to read and write in basic Greek. They may have initially written them in Hebrew or Aramaic, and were possibly later translated into Greek. For these 4 writers there is ample evidence that they knew Greek enough to write it down themselves, or as with the case of Mark, had someone else write it for them.

Greek was becoming more common at the time. It would make sense that they were originally written in Greek. Plus the news of Jesus Christ was already know in that region, so it would also make sense to that they would try to spread the word of Jesus in a different language so others could read it.

4 gospels only 2 were written by Apostles Matthew/John. John Mark was not, Luke was a doctor who was part of Paul's ministry. We also tend to forget the Father sent the Holy Spirit (in my name=Jesus). To teach; to show them; to bring all thing to their remembrance whatsoever he showed them. Didn't everyone hear these men speak in their own tongue? That alone is impossible for illiterate men to do, (if they were). Act 2:6 the multitude came together & were confounded because every man heard them speak in his own language.
