Watch our overview video on Romans 5-16, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In Romans, Paul shows how Jesus created the new covenant family of Abraham through his death and resurrection and the sending of the Spirit.

Got challenged by a pastor to read Romans. I'm an atheist who didn't grow up religious. I'm a good enough reader to know the bible is filled with words used differently than how I use them and that I don't understand the context of the bible. So I came here for an overview before diving in. I've got a super cool journaling bible and I'm writing notes in it along the way. It's not my goal to become Christian by any means, please don't misunderstand. I just wanted to say that your videos are appreciated in what may be unexpected quarters. Thanks bible project guys!

At 1:38 Jesus is not a human that lived in perfect obedience to God. He was God the Son incarnate. Don't take away nor add to the scriptures truths Bible project. Please communicate Heavenly,Biblical and historic truth accurately.

Jesus wasn’t just “a human who lived in faithful obedience to God.” Yes, He was flesh. But, He was God manifested in flesh. Jesus was/is the physical manifestation of God. Jesus is God.

The gospel by which we're saved. We're under Paul's ministry today. Therefore we're not under the law of the old testament. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV)1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
And that takes us back to John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. So it's only by GRACE that we are saved not by works. Jesus did all the work and gave us GRACE (unmerited favor) as long as we have FAITH (believe) in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for SALVATION (trust in his blood). That's the gospel. Jesus said, Ye must be born again to enter into the kingdom.(accept Jesus as your SAVIOR)

Faith in Jesus and love for each other. This is what the Romans emphasize. How simple!

Romans was meant to be a letter to unite the Church, but has become a letter that has divided the church….over Romans chapter 9. BibleProject what do you have to say about the election/free will argument in Romans 9? It seems to not have anything to do with faith in Jesus, but everything to do with Gods choice and mercy. I’m not one to believe in election for salvation. But why does Paul say that God will have mercy on whom he will have mercy after an example about choosing one of two people. And then (here’s the kicker) saying “Why does God still blame us” implying that his argument is in fact about how our sin is not our choice but Gods. Or else why would he rebuttal the argument “why does God still blame us.” Finally, I understand all the reasons why the argument of election for salvation would contradict Gods character as well as salvation by faith. However, these verses seem completely contradictory for the need for faith and seem to just throw the whole point he was making in the first four chapters out the window and say “its all Gods choice, and I’m making that very clear.” So if you (BibleProject) have any thoughts specifically on the argument Paul makes in Chapter 9, I would appreciate it because the video seems to ignore this problem.

We are saved through faith first. I notice people on social media now a days preach about working your way into heaven. These people sometimes like to argue about the right name of Jesus. And they miss the main idea. Which is to love Christ with all your mind, heart, and soul.

What a great book. We are saved through faith first. It doesnt give you a free pass to sin obviously. But you must be renewed with the Holy Spirit.

Works based salvationists like to say you can lose your salvation everytime you sin. So how many times do you have to be saved then? Jesus paid for our past, present, and future sins. We must truly love him and walk in the spirit. Help bring others up in the faith now more than ever.

I think one beauty of the gospel isn't that God causes us to triumph over evil, but that He causes us to triumph in spite of evil. Paul lives this out fully. For every seeming defeat, he channels his efforts into breaking through in other areas. Thank you, Paul, for showing us how to not be overwhelmed by the evil devices of the devil.

Thank you, BibleProject for this wonderful summary.
