So can we have possessions and still make it into heaven?

Thing is though those who need that help and beg may actually need it. They may have bad mental health problems too that shouldn't just be ignored. And Jesus said "When I was hungry, you fed me. What I was naked, you clothed me. When you did it to the least of these you did it to me."

100% Agree. As an educator, we call this learned helplessness, which is very real amongst students who simply depend on the teacher for the answer. In order to lovingly show our neighbors, it is best to show them how to fish, and even give them choice options to thrive. Not simply giving them fish.

You people always get this wrong…You take everything literally from your Bible. The time in the Bible where Jesus told the rich young ruler to "sell everything," he was exposing a condition of his heart at that moment because that young man thought that he had done everything right and followed all the commandments. It was not a command that everyone do this…that would be ridiculous for EVERYONE to be poor. What also gets on my nerves are people who use this one moment in the Bible to instill fear in everyone who would be abundant in their life. Many Christians say that this man "just couldn't give up his riches, so he would not go to heaven"…No one knows the entirety of the rest of that man's life…perhaps he contemplated on Jesus' words and saw his point…maybe he wound up giving all his things away, or maybe he started sharing and giving to others…maybe not. No one knows this only Jesus would know(if this actually happened). This particular moment is used continually guilt people from having things, but again, the whole point is the condition of the heart.

Absolutely not, why would anyone suggest that, if a Christian have accumulated things, belonging, stuff, they are.. and have been blessed of God, and not to give it away, they've earned that, God never gives anything away free… other than salvation, no you is supposed to give away there belong those are blessings from God πŸ™πŸ’―πŸ‘

One scary thing is that JESUS. JESUS HIMSELF compared a rich man going to heaven with entering the eye of a needle, yet many Christian's goal In life is to be rich.

We need to trust Jesus at his word! Trust in God and give all to the poor. Otherwise you are not a real Christian. Otherwise you are just making it up as you go.

I think that Jesus was talking to a CERTAIN TYPE of individual who was materialistic and needed to be shown that having "things" is not about what this life is all about. That was THE CONTEXT! Sometimes I have a problem with the bible because it does not uses adjectives (words that describe a noun) to explain hat a passage is really saying.

In Matthew 19 a young man came and asked Jesus how he could have eternal life. After saying he had kept all the commandments Jesus told him this:

Jesus said to him,Β β€œIf you want to be perfect,Β go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

I don't believe the point of this was the possessions, or the fact that this young man had possessions that others didn't. When I think of Jesus, I think of the manner and things that He taught. His greatest commandments to us were to Love. An example He lived and died for us. The possessions are temporary… Something that sustains for a while, but eventually is used up and is either gone or becomes useless. But Love is eternal. The young man asked Jesus, How may I have eternal life… Jesus told him to give away his possessions… Not because he didn't or wouldn't need them, but because he loved the possessions more than he loved people, which was revealed in his response. And in response to that Jesus told the disciples this:

Then Jesus said to His disciples,Β β€œAssuredly, I say to you thatΒ it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.Β And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Again… Jesus wasn't just talking about physical possessions or riches. There are many in today's world who are rich in Knowledge. Rich in Power. Rich in influence. Also, all temporary things that eventually get used up or become useless in an ever changing world. But Love is eternal. To know eternal life… To "have" it, so to speak… We must understand that God is Love, and He is eternal… Therefore His Love for all of us is eternal as well.

So if you ask me… The question here for anyone isn't "should you"… It is WOULD you?

Why should they give everything away? If their possessions are stopping them from being good helpful people, and they become greedy and selfish, then maybe but to give everything away? Absolutely not.

Leave the government out. Answer the question meaningfully. Not with " It is your call!" Should I sell all I have and give to those who have nothing so that I and my family are in the same level as them , namely with nothing.

One's rewards are not of this world. The more one is attached to material items on this world the more one is worshipping false idols. Give to those if you can, the ones that are truly lacking the basics.

    Mark 10:21
And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, β€œYou lack one thing: go, sell ALL THAT YOU HAVE and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
    My response to Jesus:
I don't believe that being broke and homeless is a good message to preach to people.
It certainly would be bad for your wife and children if you took up your cross and followed Jesus.

Jesus told the rich young ruler to sell his β€œpossessions”. Not his income. His possessions were his god and master. So even if he sold all his β€œpossessions” the rich young ruler would still be rich in income. Jesus knew this and gave the young man another chance to be wise with his money from now on.

Sorry for the long text lol πŸ˜πŸ™
In my opinion I think too many Christians use the excuse of throwing money at a situation won't help a situation to ease their own conscience because that is just not true. First of all they don't even offer and it could make a drastic difference in somebody having an opportunity to have chicken fish or meat for supper as opposed to CONSTANTLY having to eat eggs and beans all the time. Another tremendous difference for somebody is to give them a foot in the door of a decent place to live that is not in the slums. I've tried to do that before with my own family members and a couple of them were ungrateful! BUT God blesses us anyway! The only way that my ex-husband would relinquish full custody to me is if I did not go after him for child support and at the time I made good money and I didn't need his money so I stuck to my promise I never went after him for child support. I just wanted full custody of my son. However there came a, time that I lost my job the market crashed and I was out of work for almost six months and I had to take a job for $10 an hour and my rent for me and my son was only $800 a month for a two-bedroom house which you probably won't be able to find today! Anyway I spent the night in my car in front of a government agency for assistance with my rent because I was running out of money and my credit cards were almost to the max so I needed help. So I spent the night in my car to be the first one at the door at this agency because they only helped the first few people only to find out that they would not help me to pay my rent and their "purpose" was to build a bridge for somebody who was in a difficult situation just like mine! To build a bridge to get them through until they can find a job and that's exactly what I needed. However they said that during that year that my income level was above the poverty level so they would not be able to help me. In which I told the representative the whole purpose of your agency is to build a bridge to get somebody from point A to point B yes I am not at the poverty level but this never happens to me where I am unemployed for almost six months! I just need a help with bills for one month. And here is the best part maybe you would expect that from a government agency but I went several churches as well and I got NO HELP!! So Christians out there that have read this text message up until this point please don't use that excuse anymore about throwing charity to somebody or throwing money to somebody is not going to help them but actually hinder God's work because that is just not the case! If you don't want to hand them the cash then ask them where they need help and then you take care of the finances directly for that particular struggle that they're having. This is where the church is falling short. Yes you might have people that are ungrateful (but not likely) but the blessings that you will get from our heavenly Father is more important.

Context and the whole story is important. People who are pushing for government confiscation as some sort of Christian thing always cherry pick out the verses to support their case instead of context and the exact situation in question as a whole. Your pure socialistic society can not exist until Christ's return and we know it is a Kingdom.. You do how you are individually led. Compelling others out of what they have earned via a democratic vote "mob rule" couldn't be further from what Christ was after. It is up to the individual directly or via their church. Period. The real or perceived wrongs that have happened in recent or far history once those people are individually gone are not for us to try and fix since you can't ever fairly do it. Life isn't fair and if you try to make it so through your own PERCEPTION, you will wind up victimizing someone else in the process and take someone elses labors wrongly. God has layed out these events that all is his will and will be resolved his way.. not yours. If you are doing things that push people away from Christ.. you are wrong.
