What is the most important question every human being needs to answer? It’s about God and it’s one reason the topic ought to be taught in public schools.

I think all schools should stick to teaching facts and not fairy tales

There is no such thing as a time or place that God should not be taught.

No, schools should be there to teach about facts. Not about fairy godmothers.

If God doesn’t exist why do we have God on our money why do politicians use his name for votes. My favorite is whenever someone is in a really bad situation they start praying to God asking for help. Now why would instinct do that if there was no God?

You can teach about various religions, but do not teach that any one religion is true. You should NEVER teach that god exists or that creationism is real.

  10. Let's try to use real science, okay?

Frank is completely wrong about the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson was a deist, as were many of the founding fathers. The creator that Jefferson was referring to in the DoI was nature, not the christian god. The United States was absolutely not founded on christian principles and this fact was made explicit by several prominent founders. It was the strong deistic presence that kept any mention of a creator or god out of the constitution and got the wording that prohibits the government from respecting an establishment of religion into it. Any attempt to teach any one or even many religions in public schools would be a clear violation of the constitution. If Frank wants christians to be allowed to teach their dogma in public schools then I want to be allowed to go to his church every Sunday and extol the virtues of atheism and secular government and morality. What do you say, Frank? It is all in or all out on this issue, there is no middle ground here.

Whenever theists claim that the United States was founded as a christian nation they have either been grossly mislead or they are outright liars. Since I am sure that Frank has had this made clear many times over, I can only conclude that latter is true in his case.

Public schools are for teaching demonstrable facts. They are not for indoctrinating children into religion. If you want your kids to learn about your religion have them learn it from yourself and/or your religions church, temple, whatever schools. Christians can't even agree amongst themselves what a Christian is as evidenced by the myriad of denominations of it that exist let alone the non christian faiths. People of faith would lose their minds and protest any school not teaching their faith and teaching someone elses. This inevitable fighting is why religion has zero place in public schools and the first amendment is supposed to keep religion out of government in the USA. You can't have freedom of religion if only one church is the states religion that you have to follow.

No it is not. The First Amendment also means freedom from religion. The public school system is by definition is a government organization therefore is subject to it. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." It is not up to school system to teach one religion over the other. This is between the children and their parents. The school system has no business teaching the existence of god or gods.

I bet if a polytheist, Islamic, or satanist came into the school and started teaching Frank Turek's children that their religion was the one true religion, he would lose it.

Absolute morals does not exist. Purpose of life exists without religion. Both of these things are true outside of religion. Morals are what benefits society. Everyone seeks their own purpose. While I was working my purpose was to provide the best tech support I could. Now that I am retired my purpose is helping the homeless in my town. Neither one of these takes religion. His assertion is a non-sequitur. There is no single right way to live one's life. The most important academic question is not does god exist as it is a religious question. The assertion that it is makes it completely absurd.

The words of the preamble to the Declaration of Independence are not from a Christian point of view. They were written from a deist point of view. Our forefathers were not as religious as some of our current religious leaders would have you to believe. The document is not what founded our current government.

Let's debunk the so called first public school law. First the United States is America was not in existence in the late 1600s as this period the 13 colonies were still pretty much a part of the British Empire. Massachusetts passed the first compulsory school laws in 1852. Next came the movement to create equal schooling for all American children, no matter what their race. The federal government's first Department of Education (ED) was created in 1867. The U.S. Department of Education is a United States executive department established in 1980. The department was formed to promote educational excellence and ensure equal opportunity for public schooling.

Should we teach about God in public schools? only if its the god you want right? what if a someone wanted to go to your kids school and teach about the muslim god? I bet you would have a different answer. and if you are ok with you kids learning about all gods, that might just be you, not everyone else and this is the problem. We cant get everyone on the same page so the easy answer is. No teaching about any gods in public school. learn about YOUR god on YOUR own time

Keep your mythology out of education. There are many more important things to include, like a class in critical thinking.

I would suggest you take notice that the Declaration of Independence mentions a Creator, it does NOT specify the Christian God.
Nowhere does it say people are made in the image and likeness of God, so don't be dishonest by suggesting it does.
