    In Richard Dawkins' book "the God Delusion", he argued that God existing was impossible. But this argument was based on the assumption that God is a physical being inside the universe. If Dawkins can't get the basic definition of "God" right, is he really qualified to talk about it?

    Ok Frank two talking points I can refute. A. The greatest miracle in the bible is NOT the creation of the heavens and the earth (or the universe). God breathed those things in 7 days —- if God is a loving God it has to be the willing sacrifice of innocent son (who he has known since eternity past) for a inherently corrupt creation. B. You also said that God can't do illogical things — like make a married bachelor or a square circle. Again you're thinking logically and not supernaturally. God made a pregnant virgin which is illogical. Other than that this was very good !!! — Appreciate you friend.

    The religious don't debate, they post bible quotes and troll. The religious are the only people dumb enough to think that a god would need to be defended and proven. If the god wanted to be proven, it wouldn't use religious mental patients to reveal itself.

    Sadly, too true about Hitchen's, even though I'm an atheist, his arguments in the debate were almost pitiful and came across like a Kid whining about going to the dentist. Albiet in a more eloquent manner.

    Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as suspending acknowledgement of the existence of gods until sufficient evidence can be presented. My position is that I have no good reason to acknowledge the existence of gods.

    And here is the evidence as to why I currently  hold to such a position.

    1. I personally have never observed a god.
    2. I have never encountered a person whom has claimed to have observed a god.
    3. I know of no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that were willing or able to demonstrate or verify their observation for authenticity, accuracy, or validity.
    4. I have never been presented a valid logical argument which also employed sound premises that lead deductively to a conclusion that a god(s) exists.
    5. Of the 46 logical syllogisms I have encountered arguing for the existence of a god(s), I have found all to contain multiple fallacious or unsubstantiated premises.
    6. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was a necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation for the causation of that phenomenon.
    7. Several proposed (and generally accepted) explanations for observable phenomena that were previously based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered vice versa.
    8. I have never experienced the presence of a god through intercession of angels, divine revelation, the miraculous act of divinity, or any occurrence of a supernatural event.
    9. Every phenomena that I have ever observed has emerged from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never observed a phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance, system, or being) that was created ex nihilo – that is instantaneously came into existence by the solitary volition of a deity.
    10. All claims of a supernatural or divine nature that I have encountered have either been refuted to my satisfaction, or do not present as falsifiable.

    ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented – and that is the fact that there is no good reason for me to acknowledge the existence of a god.

    I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Abrahamic god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence has been presented. Atheism is simply withholding such acknowledgement until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. It is natural, rational, and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstatiated claims, especially extraordinary ones.

    I welcome any cordial response. Peace.

    The beginning of intelligence is the fear of God, and a fool hath said in his heart there is no God. So probably his wife is the smartest person hes debated or another Christian.

    Tbh, I have the same sort of fascination for the atheism vs theism debate as one would for morbid stuff online so I'll just take in anything I find relevant and intriguing whether it's a theistic or atheistic argument. Despite my admitted bias for theistic arguments, I do find the atheistic arguments surface level and often terribly pedantic. They too often lack substance or any form of depth.

    “Come now, let us reason together,”
    says the Lord.
    “Though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
    though they are red as crimson,
    they shall be like wool.
    If you are willing and obedient,
    you will eat the good things of the land;
    but if you resist and rebel,
    you will be devoured by the sword.”

    Gods are how people of the ancient world tried to make sense of the universe and their place in it.

    These beliefs have been passed down through generations , through a mixture of cultural adherence, indoctrination, special privilege and fear.

    The problem arises when people begin to believe that their god is part of reality and not just concepts they are using to try and make sense of reality.

    I disagree Lowder just reads from a book he wrote. Hitchens knows what he knows from studying the faiths in other countries and does not need to read from a book on a computer. Hitchens knows something Lowder reads something.
