Why did Tolkien tell C.S. Lewis Christianity is the ONE true myth?

Despite the amount of evidence we have for the truth of Christianity, some still say that it’s just another myth. Two great literary minds, J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were friends, but there was a time when Lewis had not caught up to Tolkien’s thinking about Christianity. Tolkien pointed out a flaw in Lewis’ affection for myths. Why? Watch this to hear the explanation.

If you can't evaluate anything about what historical figures might have been thinking, that throws out every appeal to "the disciples had every predisposition not to believe in the resurrection"

If anyone has any questions concerning the position of atheism or would like to understand why a former evangelical Christian came to adopt such a position, I will gladly answer any questions you may have. Peace.

Of course there are going to be patterns of doctrinal debris in all religions. If everything traces back to Noah and his three children then two of his three children wondered off and fell into idol worship. So yes those two childrens children would still mix in stories of the Son of God and a coming Messiah.

The difference between myths and facts, the gospels were written ON LINE not +200 hundred years after that, by the people who SAW THE FACTS.

You have zero historical evidence for Christianity. It is a myth, no different from all the other religions it borrowed from.

It is a myth to many rational people because the warped religious/theological interpretation is IDOLATROUS with no nationalistic relevance. Basically, a self obsessed and self important gospel

Gen 3:5 for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and YE shall be AS GOD, knowing good and evil – in Christ Jesus(the idol)

And the fruits thereof bore a deranged, VERY VERY divided/divisive, “demonic/religious body”, with many voices(legion) claiming god had spoken to and through them etc(since god is in and with them or living in every individual believer)

And they can’t see how “these legion of voices” in the religious body have made them…..crazy.

Defining God down is eternally pathetic.
All destructive evil is from people who moved away from God – no matter what they believed about God.

How about the 10+ Jesus-like pagan gods that predate Jesus. I always say. Christianity is just a compilation of Roman Pagan religions into one. Yes that includes Jesus. He has absolutely nothing to do with the OT. The NT tried to manipulate scriptures to try and fit one of those 10 Jesus.

The only concept more ridiculous than Gods, Superheroes and the like, is Satan. Saying Christianity isn't a myth is the same as saying the Odyssey happened exactly as written in the book. How can anyone say Christianity is all, "absolutely" true and all other myths are just myths? If the Bible is true, (it isn't) then Christians have to concede that magic is real. Therefore, Wolverine and Harry Potter exist and live next door to Odin and Osiris. Time to join the real world people. Stop holding back Human potential by refusing to grow up, and finally admit Santa Claus is just wishful thinking.

Tolkien told Lewis that the old myths about various heroes/gods sacrificing themselves, was God speaking through the minds of poets, giving them a glimpse of what was actually going to happen. The difference being, of course, that Christianity has a historical basis, along with eyewitness testimony, etc.

My moral conscious told me there's a moral standard.
My moral conscious told me how often I violated that standard.
My moral conscious told me my good actions couldn't erase the bad ones.
My moral conscious told me I needed a rescuer.

Only the Bible told me who that rescuer is.

I dare you believers to go stand in front of the mirror and profess your religion. Talk to yourself about how God man died to save you thousands of years ago. You will realize how brainwashed you have become.

I don't think any unbiased outsider would read the gospel and examine the evidence and conclude it really happened. You need to have the faith that the Bible is true first before you could believe that it is different from all other old documents. If you just read it like any other old document, you will not conclude its supernatural claims are true.

Myth doesn't mean what we think it means. Scholars would define Myth as Any Piece of Literature where God or the gods are the Main Character. Dr. Michael Heiser. So the Bible is The Myth that is True. Which is what Heiser wanted to Name his book The Unseen Realm, but it was already taken by Tolkien…

Tolkien and C.S. Lewis knew what they were talking about when it came to understanding Christianity.
They used the word myth to describe something that is beyond our world's understanding of reality as Christianity is LITERALLY GOD'S WILL BEING DONE THROUGH HIS CREATION. I really enjoy and appreciate Cross Examined ministry's Christ centered content it really shows how ignorant millions of people are about both Christianity and God's Word. This has nothing to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a fellow Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.

I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.

Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years

ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.

Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

Not one person has proven to me through scientific evidence that evolution was true or the big bang was real , yet when I read the bible I get more answers to my questions , I have not had one non believer tell me how this universe became into existence in the perfect order that is , Every scientist will tell you , " you cannot make something from nothing " ,

True Myth is an oxymoron, and an admission that the gospels are in fact myth. Run with that one.

If one considers the historical period, the ramifications of the non-existent printing press or the fact that writings of that period are considered great finds due to their lack of circulation in original literary form and creation, and the fact that of the 4 Gospel writers, two are written from the perspective of men who knew Jesus PERSONALLY (Matthew and John), one on behalf of a Disciple who knew Jesus personally (John-Mark on behalf of Peter), and one from the perspective of a man who never knew Jesus save through the preaching of the Gospel, post-Ascension (Luke).

And of the 4 men writing their individual account of the Gospel of Jesus, one was a Tax Collector (Matthew), two were fishermen (John and Peter), and one was a physician his entire life (Luke).

And yet all four of them, without issue, many not having the time or ability to write their four gospels together, let alone within the same frame to avoid "variation error", Luke constantly being by Paul's side, John and Peter performing their own ministries within Judah and the surrounding lands of the Gentiles, and Matthew working within Jerusalem and around the immediate area spreading the gospel to local Jews and Gentiles…

And even before this, Luke being a skeptical investigator himself, considering his work as a physician and hearing these rumors of miraculous healing and the forgiveness of sins by a carpenter from the land of Galilee. And seeking out this truth up to the point of talking with Jesus' own mother and with His half-brothers (sons of Joseph), the various disciples (individually) of the life of Jesus, and even some of the men and women healed by Jesus miraculously…

ALL have the same principle core elements verifying the veracity of the Gospels together in compilation, with each other, and ALL of them coinciding with nearly 4,000 years, and over 350 prophesies, of Jesus' unique birth, connection with God, LORDSHIP, Life, the manner in which he is betrayed, taken, tortured, killed, buried, and His resurrection, and the ascension into Heaven, and the bringing together of every nation, all men to the tree that is the Family of Abraham (like grafting limbs to a fruitful tree)…

You behold the near astronomical impossibility of even fabricating or "imagining" such a thing. Even more so the whole of the concept posed during the times and the righteous rebuking of those who tried to twist the words and testimonies of men who knew Jesus personally (like the Greek Gnostics). And of the 12 disciples in the First Chapter of Acts, 11 of them would see a martyr's death, and not just in the open, but in prison for speaking against the Jewish faith on Christ's being the Messiah, and the preaching to the Gentiles of the Christ, and the calling out of the Jewish Synagogues and their hypocrisy, and the Romans viewing Christ as this opposing "emperor" trying to usurp the Roman Empire, and so on and so forth… Yet still maintain their testimonies despite being told to repent and to turn away from such things and to refuse to speak of it further…

And with ALL these considerations, it would be impossible to provide the testimonies of 4 individuals who would share the commonality of Jesus in the core fundamentals and principles and life and actions of his life so accurately, with the threat of variation error and even contradictory statements.

The four gospels, alone, prove the veracity of scripture, the existence of Christ, and the 350+ prophesies made about Him in every manner of his life after 4,000 years of waiting and writing about him from various prophets since the beginning of Creation in Genesis (C. 3, V. 15).

Which is why atheists are all the more vehement about trying to make the Bible a "fairy tale" or a "myth". When considering external sources, including Josephus, Pontius Pilate, and various post-Christ sources talking about Christ being a real person, an influential leader, and the source of the Christian faith growing like wildfire during the 1st Century AD, its all the more vehement to even discredit them as "not reliable" or "conjecture at best".
