Why is socialism attractive?

A growing number of young people today like the idea of socialism or even identify themselves as Socialists. Jay Richards explains why socialism may seem like a great idea at a shallow level, but when it is actually put into practice, it is an economic nightmare that violates human rights.

It’s like when a really nice person hangs out with someone who is a complete and total jerk. They’re the complete opposite of each other and that’s NOT how I define “opposites attract.”

Simplistic propaganda. All economies are mixed economies. The United States already has plenty of socialism as "Communist" China has plenty of capitalism. This guys argument is simplistic to the point of stupidity.

This guy has no clue what socialism actually is.

Not all socialists believe in using the state to achieve their goals (i.e. Anarchists, egoists, post-leftists) but even those who do are typically more interested in organizing on a more grassroots community level. The Black Panthers gave thousands of children free breakfast (a program the FBI once deemed "the most dangerous threat to our internal security " ) Life expectancy doubled under Mao. Cuba has a 99% literacy rate compared to America's 86%. 9 million Spanish anarchists proved in 1936 that a stateless society is possible and sustainable. While there were massive mistakes and failures in the past, it hasn't all been the horror that's typically ascribed to it.

And Venezuela is a horrible indicator of how socialism works seeing as over 70% of their economy is in private hands. Also considering the fact that most working class Venezuelans loved Chavez.

Roughly 20,000,000 preventative deaths occur every year in capitalist countries but yeah, let's blame all those scary socialists for the world's problems. I hear they want to give people free healthcare and end racism…scary stuff

All of this coming from a Jesus loving commie.
